Wayo Africa are committed to Sustainable Tourism

Wayo Africa have an employment program where we employ staff via various organisations. Two such organisations are Jobertunity and The Rift Valley Children’s Village. Both these organisations will take in kids at a very young age and offer them a safe home, education and a future. Wayo Africa will employ these young people as they are leaving school and put them through an intensive training program. From here these young adults will be employed into the various departments of the company.

Green Camps

WAYOWALK2014-62.jpg

It is estimated that over 1 million litres of water are taken out of the Serengeti eco-system and used in luxury mobile camps in the park for flush toilets and showers. Besides unnecessary water consumption toilet waste eventually ends up in the National Parks soil, poisoning the environment and creating artificial environments. Wayo Africa Green camps avoid these issues by making use of water guttering off all tent roofs, collective rain-water and using this water in the showers. All toilets are composting toilets are emptied into a main, large compost bin with all the kitchen waste of our camps and surrounding camps. A combination with saw dust makes all this turn to very fertile soil in a few months that can be taken back to town and used in our gardens.

All our camps only run off solar. None of our camps have any generators. 90% of our lighting is solar, the remainder is kerosene lamps. Some of our camps make use of Charcoal rooms. The aim of these charcoal rooms is to provide additional cool rooms from evaporative cooling. All fresh food and freezers are stored inside these cool rooms. All produce has a much longer shelf life staying cooler in hot locations ensuring fewer supply runs to restock camps. Freezers can operate at lower levels using less gas.

We aim to purchase all our fresh produce from markets closest to camps to support local communities in and around our camps. We have also set up a large organic garden at our offices in Arusha and from here we grow our own produce. Wayo Africa has been the first and instrumental in initiating zero plastic policies. We were the first company to get rid of plastic water bottles in our camps and replacing those with stainless steel bottles we give to our guests as gifts. We are also removing all plastic packaging from our camp supplies and thus taking in much less waste into the parks.

Sustainable Safaris

We encourage all our guests to enjoy a large variety of activities we have on offer in our camps. Most of these activities are half day, some multiple day. During these activities guests safari vehicles are not being used.

TESTIMONIAL

Wayo Africa have been contracting with Campbell Bell Communications and Green Travel Marketing for the past 2 years to represent the company. Wayo Africa is a safari company located in Tanzania offering active and environmentally based safaris. Wayo Africa have a small group of camps across National Parks in Tanzania. Wayo Africa have had no representation prior to working with Charlie and Catherine.

CBC transformed Wayo Africa's image, awareness of the company and thus business. CBC have an in-depth understanding of the African safari industry. They are very much respected by agents from access the globe. They are a small yet effective team who only work with other like-minded clients.

CBC has also been crucial in general business advice and guidance and streamlining the business to offer a more appealing product and overall profitable company. In two years CBC’s efforts resulted in at least 15 more high profile travel agents to start business with Wayo Africa and this number will only increase.

It is also a pleasure to work wit Charlie and Catherine on a day to day basis besides them being a highly effective and professional team
